The University of Northern Iowa Freethinkers and Inquirers is hosting PZ Myers for their second annual Darwin week. He'll be speaking on "The Evo-Devo Revolution." If you don't know who PZ is, he runs the popular atheist blog Pharyngula and is the guy that I'm with in my main picture. You can check out more information about UNI's Darwin week at www.darwinweek.com.

It takes about an hour to get to UNI from my house, so I'm hoping to leave at 5:30, so we can arrive at 6:30 and have time to find parking and get seats before it starts at 7. With that, I ask that everyone carpooling from my house arrive by 5:20. We'll then figure out who's driving and who's riding and hop in cars and be on our way.

I know a few people can't make that time or are coming from else where. Celeste is looking for someone to meet in the Marion area at 5:30ish. Dennis is looking to meet in Center Point. If you can help either of them out, you can contact them directly through meetup, or email me and I'll put you in touch. If you want to try to find someone to carpool with because you can't make it to my house, let me know. Also, if you are not carpooling from my house, but would like us to try to save a seat, send me an email.

If you need the address to my house, you can either email me or check the First Friday posting from last week.

Since we have enough people interested in carpooling, I'll update with some specific details soon.

Who are the drivers? So far: Lori, Scott, Nate? Maybe Nathan?

So, the lecture is at 7pm, when do people want to meet for carpooling?

Yeah, PZ is the most badass atheist blogger.
    •  Serious lecture followed by a few questions. Nothing flashy, just cool and rational science. Audio problems in room. He is soft-spoken and everybody was still through the lecture to hear him, but the Q&A was a problem when people started stirring. He should have been wearing some kind of lavalier microphone. Party afterwards was delightful. Too bad he couldn't be more in the center of the group. Got to chat briefly and he was very gracious to everyone.
    •  Great Lecture - I learned a lot of new things about developmental biology and its role in evolution.

Hangin' out with the man afterward was the best.

PZ was great, and was gracious enough to let us act like ourselves around him at a local establishment later in the night.
