I don't like it. Back when I was a younger lass, I was in to Inu Yasha- read all the graphic novels, watched the anime, etc. But I got to this point where shit got under my skin. I don't like how Japanese artists portray women- physically or in terms of personality.

Big fan of Cowboy Bebop. I think we're about one disc short of finishign Samurai Champloo... time to get after that again. You didn't mention Hellsing, which is another one of my favorites. Even though the graphic design looks a bit dated at this point, it's still a lot of fun.

Was never a fan, even back in the Speed Racer days. Poor-quality animation pisses me off, and this crap has nothing on even the early Max & Dave Fleischer stuff (which is still classic and well worth watching!) Even Krazy Kat was better drawn.
If I want to watch sexualized cartoon women, I'll stick with Betty Boop ("I can't open the door now, I'm in my nightie.") and Jessica Rabbit ("I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way.") (btw, I think much of the newer Disney stuff is pure crap, too. I'd almost rather be strapped to a chair (a la Robot Chicken) and forced to watch Muppet porn while Joy provides commentary on the artistic and social merits thereof. (a la MST3K)) Edited by Joe Stutler on Mar 9, 2010 10:16 AM |

My roommates in college were big anime fans, so I got exposed to a good deal of it. Something to note is that anime is a huge genre with a wide range of quality and views.
My Favorites: Azumanga Daioh is simply amazing. Read or Die is also amazing. Last Exile is very good, though the Tenchi-Muyo-style unwanted harem really annoyed me. |

Wait a second...I thought anime was that Japanese rope bondage. If not I think I owe my girlfriend an apology.

Don't you think that girls in anime are usually shown as being completely f*cking retarded? They are always giggling, screaming, or childish.

Same goes for horror movies.
![]() although it does seem they're starting to lean away from that now.....but in a lot of movies, it seems like the drama/arguments seems to stem from people endlessly having a poor choice of words. Edited by Jeff on Mar 9, 2010 2:13 PM |

Don't you think that girls in anime are usually shown as being completely f*cking retarded? They are always giggling, screaming, or childish. Seriously, it varies from series to series. Just like any other genre. The crap that they play for American kids programming is not indicative of the genre as a whole. Edit: I should also mention that anime is really more of a meta-genre than a genre. There's comedy anime, action anime, drama anime, romance anime, crappy kids anime (that most American are most familiar with), porn anime, etc. Edited by Nate Mohling on Mar 9, 2010 5:46 PM |
