Frequently Wondered About Questions

Why is this page "Frequently Wondered About Questions" instead of "Frequently Asked Questions"?
We find that we don't actually receive a lot of these questions directly. Rather they get brought up at an event and someone says "Yeah, I wondered about that." However, if you do have a question to ask the A-Team, you're welcome to contact us at info@corridor-a-team.com.

The A-Team? Really?
I know, I know. Silly 80s reference and all. But we find that some people aren't ready to identify themselves as atheists and as such don't neccessarily want to be part of a group that has atheist in the name. For some people it's an easy way to reference the group without announcing that they are an atheist. Besides that, the A-Team was awesome. They could totally kick Chuck Norris's a**.

Are you all atheists?
No… but kinda yes… oh geez… this can of worms is going to get me in trouble. Let’s put it this way. The A-Team will often apply the term atheist to all the members of the group (it is the 'A' in the name), but technically that’s inaccurate. Our members define themselves as atheists, agnostics, freethinkers, secularists, skeptics, humanists, non-religious, etc. Since members don’t have a holy doctrine to follow, everyone is free to define themselves however they like – and they do.

Do you guys really eat babies?
Only on special occasions and only in the form of cake. The whole baby eating thing is just our way of making light out of a bad situation. Many religious people don’t understand how we can be moral without some supreme authority. They ask questions like, “What’s stopping you from raping and murdering?” Being thought of as an immoral person can be a bit disheartening, so we counter it by joking about something we agree is an immoral act.

What is stopping you from raping and murdering?
The quick answer: our desire not to be raped and/or murdered ourselves.

So are these meetups like the opposite of church?
It seems that no one can really define what the opposite of church really is, but it is common for people to show up and decide that the meetups are not it. We don’t “preach” atheism – we’d like to figure out how preaching the lack of belief in something is possible. We don’t believe in the existance of god and all the stuff that goes along with him. Not much else to really “preach” about.

Do you guys just sit around and hate on religion during the meetups?
Nope. We may make a few jesus jokes, laugh about some silly things religious folk like to say, discuss some difficult situations we’ve found ourselves involved in with religious people, or share our “deconversion” stories. But generally the meetups are purely about just meeting each other. We discuss the news, the weather, books, movies, politics, our lives, our interests, and everything else in between.

I believe in god, but I just want to get out and meet people and you guys look like you do a lot of fun stuff. Can I come?
Sure. But we will make jesus jokes and if it happens to be “Convert a Theist Month” some people may try to convince you that god doesn’t exist in an attempt to win a microwave. It is all light-hearted fun, and if you’re up for it, come on out. Please remember though that we try to make these meetups religion-free zones. If you are looking to “save” any of us, please find a church that does some fun stuff and join them.

I believe in god, and I want to chat with non-believers about god and jesus. Can I come?
We'd prefer that you contact us instead. We like to keep our actual social meetups religion-free. We'd be happy to organize an event or a small, private gathering for you to chat with us about such things. Just shoot us an email and we'll get things rolling. info@corridor-a-team.com

Convert a Theist Month?
Yes. If you can turn a believer into a non-believer during the month, you can win Bruce’s microwave. No one knows when Convert a Theist Month is until it is announced. (And we are atheists, we will demand solid evidence of said conversion.)

I don't really care about atheism or secularism or anything like that, I just need a date. Can I come?
There's singles group on meetup made just for people like you. They have lots of members and lots of fun activities and are probably a better fit for what you are looking for. We recommend that you check it out: http://www.meetup.com...
